Jake welcomed lots of petting, and Faith accepted nose rubs and kisses. They are planning to return to Surrey Place Care Center in cooler weather for a barbecue, more time with the horses, and offer horse and carriage rides.

Everyone should celebrate the joys of spring since winter is behind us. The warmer weather calls us outside, and it’s time to put away the winter wear, get out the capris and colorful tops, and fire up the grill.
The elders and staff enjoyed a day of hula lessons, volleyball, tropical music, and grilled hamburgers and hotdogs.
The children from My Play School and VBK in Live Oak Florida visited for a special Easter Egg hunt. The children sang songs that they had learned at school, and the staff and elders enjoyed having them around. It is always a fun time when Ms. Ginny brings the children to visit!
More than 1,000 Signature staff members registered for the recent Spirituality LearnFEST, a virtual learning conference that encouraged participants to consider the impact of spirituality, if fully activated, in a long-term care environment.
And that number doesn’t even include the many who joined in groups, in offices, breakrooms and wherever there were TVs or computers at Signature centers across 10 states to view the live broadcast. The event featured sessions that tied spirituality to numerous aspects of long-term care and health care, from clinical care to legislative involvement and the impact of spirituality in the workplace.
Recently, some of the elders from Surrey Place traveled to Chipley, Florida to compete against other Signature Healthcare nursing homes. While there, they had the chance to win money and prizes. Everyone had a great time and returned home with great memories from the trip.
Surrey Place Care Center held its second annual Ms. Surrey Pageant. Contestants dressed up in their evening gown, were escorted by the Suwannee High School NJROTC, and gave wonderful answers during the question phase.
The winners of the night were: 3rd runner-up was Hazel Silcox, 2nd runner-up was Betty Morgan, and Ms. Surrey Place was Myrtie Morgan. All of the contestants were beautiful and deserved to win. We look forward to seeing Ms. Myrtie compete in the regional pageant.
We would like to thank our staff for all their help in the set-up and ensuring each contestant had a gown. We would also like to thank Lester Curry for being the Master of Ceremonies for the night, Suwannee Vo-Tech Cosmetology, and LaVonne Monds for doing each contestant’s hair and makeup.
A special thanks to our wonderful judges: Buddy Williams, Jeff LeRoux and Audrey Short.
